RENT BOOKS?
What a HORRIBLE concept!
I am a book hoarder... I own them, love them and covet them completely like children~
The thought or renting a book... is awful to me. I hope they never do that! People need to come to appreciate the pride of ownership in having a personal library. If someone does this no one will want to keep their books.
There will be less publishing, less circulation less buying of books... That would be like everyone burning CD's. It would put a hit out on the entire process~
Not a good idea~
But they do have used book stores so... But I only tend to buy used, antiques... from them. Not just general reading.

examine your public library. I grew up in a rural section. Manitowoc, Wisconsin has a mail library. It mails books on your place and includes an envelope so which you would be able to mail the books back.

No, but that's a very cool idea...hmm...
There *are* some book swapping sites. They vary a lot; many are mostly devoted to textbooks, and for some they won't do much good--I tend to read a few genres and classics, and they're hard to find on such sites. If you're less picky than I, try this one: http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php

Do you have access to a public library? You can take out a number of books, for free, and request titles that they don't have--and they'll bring them in from another library.

There's always your local public library. Even if they don't have the book you want chances are they can get it from another library.
