Most women dilate to some small degree in the days and weeks before giving birth.

In your friend's case, however, there is no way to know if she is indeed dilated unless she she was examined by a medical doctor. If she is in last month of pregnancy she should be seeing a doctor on an at least weekly basis for evaluation, or sooner if she has specific concerns.

I assume that she did not ask her father to examine her out of idle curiosity. Her questions should be directed to an OBGYN specialist rather than a layperson. Her evaluation, including any intravaginal exams, should be performed by a licensed medical person.

I do think that it can be considered abnormal for your friend to ask or allow her father to examine her in this way. Her father's behavior is certainly innapropriate, and perhaps illegal, in any case. If your friend is under the age of 18 please contact the authorites immediately and relay the information that your friend has shared with you. If you are under 18, please tell a parent, teacher, or other adult about your friend's situation so that they can do so.

Okay, that's really gross, but I won't even comment on the subject of the father checking his daughter. Everyone else has given their opinion about that and I agree with them. Regarding the position of the baby, The body will know what to do. A baby is ready to be born when the cervix is both 10 cm. dilated (opened completely) and zero percent effaced (as thin as it can possibly be). If she is around the due date, it's normal for the head to be visible. Inducing only rushes things, unless there are complications that make inducing necessary. A doctor can determine that. If she's late and ultrasounds determine the baby is large and yet labor hasn't begun, then the doctor may induce. I hope she is seeing an obgyn (other than her father)!

Well, is her father an ob/gyn? If she's confident that he's a specialist on that field then there's nothing wrong with it, even though I'd personally opt for a person I'm not related to.
On the other hand, if her father has nothing to do with medicine then yes, this is VERY weird and wrong in so many aspects. Furthermore, if her father has no experience with childbirth then how can he tell her whether she's dilated or not and how far along is she? But even if he was right on, you don't feel the baby's head with a 2cm dilation. What he most probably felt was the enlarged cervix, which is big and round through most of the pregnancy anyway.
One more thing: I hope her father was sane enough to take all hygiene measures - wear sterilized gloves and wash her with betadine. Last thing you need when you're ready to give birth is an infection that could hurt the mother AND the baby.

Yeah that's not weird but insane! There's no way a normal person with no training knows when someone is dilated or not anyways that's gross! Secondly there's no way she was due on the 5th, if so she would have had that baby at home by now! If she hasn't been to the doctor at all during her pregnancy then there's really no way she would know the due date for sure anyways. You can't feel the baby's head at 2 cm anyways. Regardless if she has insurance or not she still has to go to the doctor even a clinic is better than nothing at all but if she thinks she should be having the baby soon she needs to get to the hospital. You dont have to have insurance sure she'll have to pay later but they will let her pay in payments.
Personally i think this girl is pulling your leg, prolly for attention. She sounds a little nuts!!

Her father has no right to check her. If she is 2 cm dilated, then he didn't feel the head, but I'm starting to wonder what he is feeling if you know what I mean. lol There is no reason for him to be checking her in the first place. They should be doing it like normal people do, wait til she goes into labor and take her to the hospital. If they really wanted to know if she is dilated or not, why isn't the baby's father checking her. She should be have weekly doctor's appointments at the end of her 40 weeks. Why isn't she being checked there?

The due date was wrong obviously. The fact that she hasn't been to the doctor and having her father who is not even a doctor manually check her is CRAZY. There is something clearly wrong with the situation. How old is this girl? There is rarely a reason for someone who is pregnant to be denied insurance through the state. I would call some type of authorities if I were you.

Ok thats is just kinda... Bleh.. 1.. its gross. 2.. If shes 4wk Over due thats NOT a good sign. Doc usually start induces at 2wks OD. She DEFINATLY should be at a hospital getting induced.. Shes hurting herself and her baby! If her father isnt a doc he has no right checking her. Thats just.. Bleh. She needed to see docs throughout her pregnancy. There are a lot of things that can be detected that might possibly be wrong! Theres so many other things she could get just being pregnant. (Ex. Toximia) I dont know if you really can do anything about it. But shes not very smart if she hasnt been seeing a doctor and letting her dad 'check' her.

Yes, it's weird that her father checked her! How about let the doctor take care of that? Also, you don't say how far along she is. If she's almost to term, she could be 2cm dilated and still not be in labor yet. If her water hasn't broken yet, she probably isn't in labor. If people are messing around in there who aren't medically qualified, it could actually start premature labor or cause an infection. Your friend should let a doctor decide whether she's in labor yet or if she should be induced.

this is totally wrong her father should never have touched unless hes a certified doctor but to me that would still be weird.and yes she should of been to the hospital already i have had three kids and if you can feel the head your more than 2 cm dilated.sounds like somebody needs to tell her she needs to go to the doctor.

as far as the hospital goes at a 2 you can be there for weeks. i was at a 2 for 4 weeks and then a 4 for another 2 weeks so the dialation process is sometimes time consuming and not a rushed process. as far as her dad checking her unless he is a doctor he has no clue how dialated she is and he just wanted a quick peek at his daughter. which is a little creepy. hope all turns out for your friend. good luck
