Anyone else read this and a bit disappointed?

Tell me about it. I bought it in the hopes of reading a real chiller that left me terrified to sleep but instead there was very little horror atmosphere in the story. There wasn't much in the sense that the house was haunted or that the family were terrified (after all, they remained in the house).

I've read much better horror novels before and yes, this was a disappointment.

i was disappointed too by it but i think herbert has been going downhill for a few years ever since he wrote Once--terrible terrible book

Oh please don't say that! I've just given it to my dad for Christmas!!! Also, was hoping to read it after. Usually like James Herbert ( although prefer Stephen King!)
