bmmbmmbmm hit it right on the mark. some team will REALLY overpay for him just like the Brewers did with Suppan and the Mets did with Carlos Beltran a couple of years ago. Its a proven fact that with free agency the big dollars do go to the guys that put up big October numbers. Besides the cardinals have shown that they are a team that is never willing to overpay for someone unless they have proven over time that they can succeed. I think the Cardinals will pick up a lower price option such as Victor Zambrano or Joel Pineiro (the better option) to fill out their rotation. Both are decent starters who did have a bad year last season, but should have the ability to bounce back.
1. Chris Carpenter (Cy Young candidate)
2. Adam Wainwright (hasn't started a game in his career, but looked EXCELLENT as a fill-in for Isringhausen last year)
3. Kip Wells (Tough luck the last several years but now that he is on a really good team he could put up some of his old numbers)
4. Anthony Reyes (Real good young pitcher who can only get better)
5. ? (could be Braden Looper or one of the forementioned free agents all could be a decent 5)

Probably but not beyond '07. This guy has had so many chances to make it with some really good teams but for whatever reason he just can't get it done. I'm sure that before his career is over he will end up with at least another 5 or 6 teams. Very overrated!

I think it is doubtful that weaver with stay with the birds. Weaver will try to cash in on his postseason success (like Suppan did with the Brewers) and will end up somewhere else. His production shouldnt be hard to match.

The answer is no, I spoke with him a few nights ago and he is looking at an offer in Seattle. He said that he already has the world series ring, now he is going for the money. I do not blame him.

He would be smart to stay because even though he had an AWESOME post season, in the regular season he struggled quite a bit but who knows maybe the spotlight from the post season will go to his head.

if he was smart he would...he comes to stl in 06, helps tehm win a w/s ...much of the same team is returning with the exception of suppan he thought he was worth more than stl was willing to pay...again, with more fame and chmpionships won fame and money will come...look at the big picture down the road...ask reggie jackson, look at all the rings he won and still made millions on top of millions...

I'd like to think so, but he may ask for too much money. His agent is Scott Boras.
