hmmm ... I find it ironic that in your own circumstances you believe CYFS (or CAS in other parts of Ontario) have too much power yet question why they failed to intervene in other situations. I'll do ya one better ... how about the mother in Barrie that drowned her two kids ... she had mental health issues, had her kids taken from her as she went into the hospital with a breakdown and then got them back right after she came out ... why? B/c her Dr. said she wasn't at risk of harming her kids. So who's to blame there???

BTW, I will be the first one to say that the system is not perfect, that some changes need to happen (not just with CAS but with Courts, lawyers, etc. too) and there are some grossly incompetent people out there, but to generalize that anyone doing their job just doesn't care as long as they get paid, especially when working with kids - that really pisses me off.

Yes, they have way too much power, and an important reason is that people really cannot afford to make a public crusade out of their injustices. To do so inevitably delays things, and in the meantime, your children are growing up without you.

I am hoping you have a good lawyer, because I fear you are going to need one. The people who take these kinds of jobs with CYFS have a particular mind-set which is guaranteed by their education and their job positions. They must think they know better than you do what is good for your kids; that's the premise on which they pursue such a career.

The fact is, it is a very rare parent that actually abuses their child, and those are adequately dealt with by the courts. But in setting up their bureaucratic functions, they inevitably spread their power to include those who have the child's best interest at heart ("good parents" by any definition that makes sense to me), and make errors in judgment. As I say, the premise is they know better than you do, so they can define your decisions as errors.

But sometimes a good parent who is not skilled in dealing with the bureaucrats can end up appearing to be a bad parent. That may have been what happened to you, or there may be real problems with some one or more staff members at CYFS having a bad attitude for some reason. How can you know, when they are so set up as to keep their real motives and objectives masked?

Remember that you can, if you try, get a chance to explain all this to a judge. And that is where you not only need a good attorney, but you need a good attitude. You need to be very much in control of yourself, no matter what BS anyone else starts slinging. A judge has a thing called "contempt of court" with which he will first threaten and then really punish you if you are not polite and respectful in court.

I have often seen instances where it all looked bad as the attorney laid it out, but the judge trusted the parent and believed him or her. Invariably they were parents who were able to express themselves clearly and sincerely when the judge asked them questions. You should rehearse your answers with your lawyer.

as quickly as you and your lawyer are becoming to be the youngsters thoroughly homestead, you would be able to seek suggestion from the district lawyer whether there is reason to can charge malfeasance or misfeasance on the area of CYFS for which you will desire to sue. yet till you get the youngsters thoroughly lower back on your guy or woman custody, and the choose has mentioned it somewhat is the place they belong, you're able to do nicely to be very well mannered and affected person and extremely, very continual. Quietly, with dignity, insist which you will not enable the priority drop till your little ones are homestead. God bless the youngsters.
