Depends on your shoes.
Strappy heels where toes/heel are seen should be worn with skin colored hose (toeless is even better).
If wearing closed toe pumps/heels, it could go either way.
I personally think that the "dressier" the dress/gown, the better skin colored hose looks. Dark hose is fine for casual & work.

Black is classic and the great thing about the 21st century is that you don't have to wear panty hose, you can wear open toes shoes and you can wear a strapless or halter style dress at any time of the year. Just use a wrap or shawl for when you're outside. I know what you mean about guest attire fiasco, I had a co-worker of my mothers show up in a skirt that I would wear with my swimsuit, a "wife beater" tank top and flip flops. We had a church wedding with our reception at our sports club that we were members of (pretty fancy place) Anyway, you'll be fine.

Black is good if you are trying to go for the Morticia look.Wear the Tan with reinforced toe.Tan colored pantyhose doesn't make you look fat.Fat makes you look fat.I've seen many a large woman wearing black pantyhose thinking that it makes them look thinner.NEWS Flash! It isn't working.Wear the Tan and buck the trend.It isn't hard to look better than everyone else.Just don't go bare legged and you are ahead of the game.Now go have a great New Year!

Black is always a winner.
If you want to go for something a little different, you could always do black or silver fishnets on top of off-black pantyhose.

Either lite black, Well actually it would depend on how dark or lite your legs are really. Me I'm not a pantyhose person but I would wear a lite black.

tan would make your legs look bigger while black will do just the opposite.
