I am not joking, DID no body read the question???.
1) Most newer laptops have wi-fi
2) Make you have a wireless card
3)DOWN THE PUB???, how far away is the pub?if it is about 80 meters (cos you are transmitting through walls i assume) then you might get a connection there.... but say its not then this really does look like a joke question.

Your laptop needs to have a wireless capability, and wherever you take it there must be a wireless network you can access, ie wifi hotspot, or someone whose network is unsecured. You need to do a search for available networks.
Your own router will not give a signal unless it's pretty close to where you work.
Not terribly technical explanation but hope it helps.

You can use the laptop anywhere there is wireless service that you can 'piggy back' onto, but you need to have a wireless network card installed in your computer first. If you use it at home without using an Ethernet wire plugged into both your computer and the router, you have wireless capability and can use it almost anywhere you want to.

First, verify that your laptop really does have built in wifi. Some don't. Starting on your windows screen, click on START /SETTINGS /CONTROL PANEL /SYSTEM /HARDWARE /DEVICE MANAGER/ NETWORK ADAPTERS and see if you have a wifi network adapter.

If you do, and it is active and working properly, then you are probably just not in range of the broadband router you are trying to access.

Does your access work at home? If so, you just don't have a connection at the pub.

The laptop ought to be place on a flat floor. What you're able to do is get a a million/2 inch plywood Bord in basic terms a splash greater than the laptop. you could now place it on your lap, like this you will no longer experience the warmth and the device would be cooler PD I already patented this Bord, yet whilst it gets on the marker would be made up of plastic and detachable. this manner you could place the notebooks any the place, like over a rug, on the mattress, etc warmth ought to worsen your epidermis

Unless you can access free wifi hotspots you have two realistic (legal) options:
1. use a 3g / gprs mobile phone as a modem
2. use a 3g data card to access mobile broadband

both options are relatively expensive

You need a wireless card that works over the cell phone network, if you want to truly use your laptop almost everywhere. I have a very fast one from Sprint. (You will also have to pay a monthly fee for the service......) With your WiFi card, you will have to be close to a "WiFi Hotspot"--and you probably have to pay a fee for that service as well.
