Its a fungal disease known believe it or not as `white spot`, you can get treatments for this from any semi decent pet store. The main causes are introducing new fish with out quarantining them for 4-6 weeks first or poor water management, changing 1/5 or the water in your tank every fortnight as well as having a working filter should help prevent this.

It will more than likely spread to the whole tank unless you can get the treatment in soon and as to survival rate, most your fish will probably survive, IF it hasnt taken too great a hold.

This is one of the most common diseases for fish, i would recommend investing in a book of fish health/care as they list all the common ailments and treatments

Hi,

I'm not an expert on fish but have kept them for years, it sounds like yours have the very common condition called white spot. This can kill them if not treated early. You need to go to a pet shop and ask for the medication for white spot, you can look up the condition on Yahoo or google to learn more. You put the medication in the tank water from what I remember. White spot can be caught by other fish and so you do need to act quickly to save them. Try not to worry, i'm sure if you get the treatment tomorrow and put it in the tank they will be fine. Take care, Sj.

White Spot - Ich (Ichthyopthirius) This is the most common problem in a tank. Tiny pin head sized white spots on the head, body and fins. Left un treated the fish will almost always die. Lots of treatments available at the pet store. Usually ich is caused by stress or shock, banging on the tank, transporting the fish in and out of the tank. Easily treated.

Its actually called 'White Spot' and you can pick up the treatment from a pet shop, its added to the water in the tank - fish can be at risk when stressed, being introduced to a new tank has probably set it off.

They shouldn't die if treated but sometimes fish can just keal over for no apparent reason, heartbreaking sometimes but you get used to it.

PS Guppies breed like rabbits

It sounds like white spot ,you should always make up a first aid kit for the fish, so you always have cures ready , more than likely one fish was infected when you bought it and with the stress of putting it in a new tank fetched it out

I got some fish to add to my aquarium a few months ago. They also developed white spots soon after purchase and unfortunately they died very quickly along with all the existing fish. So get down to the shop and buy something to treat them asap.

it is white spot and yes the others will get it. You should quarantine new fish before adding them to your tank. Go to the shop you bought them from and buy a white spot medicine to add to the water.
Why did you buy them with white spot? You need to check fish carefully from any shop and not buy if they look diseased.

You got Whitespot!. Get a remedy from your aquatic supplier & raise the water temperature to about 80 deg fahrenheit. This causes the reproductive cycle of the whitespot parasite to speed up. You need to do this, as well as using the treatment because the treatment is only effective against the organism during it's free swimming stage, which happens very quickly due to the temperature increase. Several repeat treatments may be neccesary.

Sounds like White Spot, a fungal infection that fish can get. You can get a treatment from your pet shop which you can add to the water, which can work if caught soon enough, otherwise......
