Everybody is telling you how to check hard drive space. Your problem is low memory. Two different things. 1GB of memory should be fine. You can see how much memory you have by right clicking "My computer" and picking properties.
You probably get that message because you have too much junk loading whenever the computer starts. Remove all the programs you don't need from add/remove programs in the control panel.
Go the start/run and type miscounting. In the start up tab, unchecked the stuff you don't need. Some of it's pretty obscure, but don't worry. Windows will run with none of that stuff checked. If something quits working you can just recheck the box that it needed.
You can also drag the stuff in the Programs/Start up folder to the desktop to see if you needed it. Just drag it back to the start up folder if it turns out you did.
And add more memory if you don't have at least 1 gigabyte.

click on start - my computer - then right click on your hard drive icon - properties - should say how much you are using and how many gigs left

I assume you mean hard drive space and not ram?

The warning was probably your ram memory running low. Make sure you only have the programs running that you are using at any time. Close off everything else. Especially when playing games. It may also be an idea to check if your pc could take a bit more ram. This would speed up your pc. If you want to know how let us know

i type this very slowely for you.... lol
to find out how much memory is left on your hard drive (that's the thing that stores your programs and other stuff like pictures etc) you go to my computer, RIGHTclick on your c: drive and choose properties, there it will tell you how much physical memory is left on your drive.

the performance of you computer depends a lot on your RAM (random access momory) that's little chips (not potatoe) in your computer that store data whyle the processor is working.

when you run games that have a lot of fast moving graphics, you need a lot of ram. you can buy more ram for your computer, take the machine to a dealer so they can see how much you have and which kind you need. i'd say for what you are doing you should be fine with 528Mb of ram.

if you need more space on your harddrive, you can clean up files like temp files/temporary internet files/ pics you don't need anymore, etc.

also, little trick, when you RIGHTclick on your recycling bin on the desktop, choose properties, change the default size that windows puts aside for junk from 10% to 1%, that will give you a bit more space.

if you need a bigger harddrive (i think 40gig should be way plenty)
you can buy one to be installed as a slave (secondary drive)
hope that helps

Memory or hard drive space? The pie chart you are talking about is hard drive space, where you store your files. Go to My Computer, right click on C: and pick Properties. Memory is something totally different.

get a Terabyte, that's about a thousand Gigs of memory, but very expensive.

usually about 80 gigs would do just about fine. some games require more memory so I would go with the 100+ gig computers

go to My Computer and usually it will either tell you on the right of the icon or you can right-click on the c drive, it'll give you the information with a graph of your available space as well as your used up space

Computers (any) use 3 'versions ' of memory.
Your hard drive is used for storage of information, and programs (also in part as virtual memory...below)
Your pc has memory on the motherboard, (RAM) typically 512mb or 1gb of RAM
Part of the hard drive is used as "Virtual Memory" Generally, this will be 1 1/2 times the quantity of RAM fitted on the motherboard.
look at these links, tells you how to set your Virtual Memory.... this may well be the answer to your problems....

press cntrl-alt-delete and go to the performance tab. This will give you the total memory and available memory.

For a desktop PC the minimum memory I would suggest is 512mb but if using games 1gb would probably be better.

If you go to www.crucial.com and use the system scanner it will tell you what memory you have and what you could upgrade the pc with.

easy steps for you :
going to my computer and right click on each drives (Local disk drive ) then select properties . you'll see free space volume near the pink box . free space on drive C + free space on drive D + free space on drive E + ... = Total free space on your hard disk drive .
