Before you can use the hard drive you need to format and partition the drive. goto the dos command box and type format x: were x is the letter of the new drive. After formating it will ask you to make an active partition and wala.........

What do you mean get files ??? If it is a new drive there are no files on it. If it is a new drive you need to format it !!!
What Operating system ??? XP ???

Right click on "My computer" icon and then select "Manage...".
under "Storge" choose "Disk Managment". you will see all your hard-drives on then right window. just right click on your new HD icon and select "Format".
