The subject has vast scope in the years to come in all branches of science - agriculture, industry, medicine etc..
The production of bio fertilisers (Azotobacter, Azospirillum, Rhyzobia, etc) that would be cheap, ecofriendly and effective have opened the scope for gradual replacement of chemical fertilisers that are costly, cause pollution both in their production and use environments...
In industry the bio degradable plastics research, in medicine the use of LB antibiotics (antibiotics with lacto bacillus) and purely micro organism based anti diarrhoea drugs etc may be mentioned
Lot of research is going on in this field and by the time you reach school finals you will have excellent openings for more and more specialization as well as placement..

There is a lot of scope for microbiology in the future.By the time you pass out it will be a really demanding field. Now if you want to do something like research you would have to do B.Sc,M.Sc and PhD courses. But the best prospect is studying it from a professional point of view.Like in medicine you would have to study the ways it affects a patient. In places like cmc vellore there is a lot of study and research work going on.So anyway best of luck for your future, bye.
