Well the UK and Ireland did split in 1922. You must mean, UK & Northern Ireland. Why are so many questions poor today? C'mon people, get your facts right.

The Republic of Ireland gained independence from the UK over 70 years ago.

thats almost 85 years ago.

Eventually probably because the Catholic birth rate in Northern Ireland is higher than the protestant. However the protestants will need to be accomodated because they are fiercely pro-british. Overwise there would be renewed conflict.
