is anyone else not scared of dying because you believe there is no afterlife and when we die we cease to exist as anything, therefore there is no time after dying to feel any negative emotions such as regret/remorse etc. we just fade away....

Well, no. I don't believe that - but I'm certainly not afraid of death. (Though I realise the actual process of dying can be difficult).
I work quite often with people who are terminally ill, have friends who are or who are just afraid of dying. I reccommend the same thing to all of them. Read this book -
Grace and Grit by Ken Wilber.
When I'm working with people we can talk at a depth which obviously isn't possible here. Coming to terms with death, your own and other people's, takes a bit of work. Ken's book helps you to do that.
One of the responses to Grace and Grit was from a 14 year old girl. She had been terrified of death before reading it. Afterwards she wrote saying, 'I'm not afraid anymore'.
Strange though it may sound, coming to terms with your own mortality actually frees you up to live life more deeply. If you've done that and are safe in your knowledge and beliefs, then wonderful! For anybody who has doubts or reservations, even fear - read the book.

I am a materialist - I don't have proof that there is an existance after life. If god created everything, then what created god? So god is not a viable option for me as the idea cannot be falsified.

However, I am petrified of dying. I had a younger brother who commited suicide aged 18 years, so when I found the body I saw what happens.

I am happy to relax knowing that I'll never know what the score is with death while I've got the capacity to use the knowledge.

Either way, I don't like the idea of myself being a dead body. The thing that gets me is the hopelessness of the situation - death being inevitable and all. Surely there is a way round it?

Are you scared of death, or scared of the method by which you will die? I think most people who ask this question have a fear of dying in pain or trauma, which is the real issue. Dying is inevitable and, if you are gone and there is nothing there, then you will not be aware of the 'nothing' whereas if there is an afterlift then you have another life to play with again.
I think you will only get a one-sided view from a priest or church, I'd widen your sphere a little and talk to people with other beliefs, spiritual, agnostic, heathen, pagan, etc. You will have plenty of views there to consider.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DEATH.
You are not your body just like you are not your automobile.
There is no difference between entering and leaving you auto or your body. You are the conscious being which does the action.
Consciousness is neither created nor can it be destroyed.
Life is simply a continuum....eternal but ever 'changing'.
Beforelife and afterlife is the SAME LIFE.

Everyone will die sooner or later. We are afraid of dying because we will leave all the people we care about. The non attachment is the way out of it. The non attachment to our family, to our belongings, to our worldly desire. But there will be life after death. Death is just the ship bring us from this place to another place. One thing we scare of is will that place be nice or worse?

It's a circle of life thing. You end up being worm food which in turn grows the planets which feeds the birds and animals which help the plants grow which you eat etc. Dolphins don't worry too much about life and they're much cleverer than us.

Fading sounds great. I believe that when you are dead, you are dead. However this doesn't stop my wishful thinking. I think it would be great if when you were dead you could watch your whole life on tape, but be able to interfere with it, and enjoy life all over again. Unfortunately this will not be so, so I'll just have to accept that dying means you are DEAD.

I am scared of death not because of any worry regarding afterlife, but rather for having to end this valuable life.

from my personal experience the older i get the more tired of living i get.I mean when the thrill of falling in love, experiencing things for the first time, going through raising a family,my body steadily falling behind what my mind thinks it can still do but cant anymore. When old friends seem to disappear and you long for the good old days.I will die in a whimper when all things are long behind me.
