I hate arguments... but I talk much more and I reason out much more when I'm into one ;-)

For me, an argument is nothing more than a heated debate. Each is trying to get the other to agree with their point of view. It's important to listen so you can tell what it is they are saying and why. Ask yourself "what is so important that this discussion should come up and why did it come up at this time?" Usually there is an unidentified subject of the discussion which may be entirely unrelated. If you like the other person, it is important to try to understand what he/she is trying to say. Listening and understanding is of utmost importance and can not be overrated. Emotions are hard to put into words. If you can show that you understand the emotional content, you win. If you can stand up to a long heated argument and walk away smiling, you have had a unforgettable experience with a good friend. It's not how long you can last, It's how soon you can accept why the other feels as she does. IMHO

It depends on how I feel and how committed I am to the point of view. If it's not that important, I'll let it go or have fun with the other person by changing my arguments, or agreeing with them then retracting it, etc.
Sometimes if I'm bored, I'll argue just for the fun of it. It helps keep me sharp and passes the time.

45 seconds. If it's with a woman - divert the blow (like martial arts)! Walk away - because resistance is futile!
5 minutes. If money is at stake (my money) - I'll try to be intelligent and try to last long enough. But if he/ she is too dumb to reason with, then I'll end it short - especially if I know I'm not getting my money back!
15 minutes. If it's a casual debate (at a dinner), I'll make controversial points - but if the debate gets too heated or too illogical, I'll excuse myself to the washroom, then return and smile and sip my drink!

Until we settle the argument...
But i'm perfectly capable of walking away to just breathe and let loose for a while.
But i won't back down until we've reached some type of... medium.

My word is almost always last when I argue, because
a) maybe I'm strong rival (haha)
b) people are tired to argue with a stubborn like me and give up for me.

I try to avoid arguments, so I don't last very long at all.

let me say this first off, I do not like to argue. for one..I HATE to lose..two ..I do everything i can do to WIN...three..I do not forget..
four.I do forgive ( but not forget)
OK that said.. it will last as long as it is needed, like maybe YEARS...yes years...no not every minute of the day for years, but once we get into it, and it is not solved, then we are still arguing as long as it takes to come to an agreement...but the longer it goes, the more likely I am not going to give in....I will win one way or the other
smile
good luck

never argue with a fool for those listening can't tell who the fool is....maybe someday I will follow this advice. I can last until I pop them in the mouth.

I try not to argue with people, but if I do, I usually give them a piece of my mind then walk off.
