Hiya,

For the past few days whenever you click onto a website, about 5 different pop-up windows come up. They've advertising casino's etc, and also an official looking one telling you to install something (which I'm not going to do!)

We have both IE and Firefox installed, and at first the latter wasn't affected, but today it's been doing the same thing.

Is this Adware and is there anyway to get rid of it? Preferably without having to install anything. Would System Restore be any help?

Thanks in advance!

Oh and even though it's a bit early - Happy New Year! x

We have Norton Antivirus installed, a pop-up blocker that's always turned on, plus a firewall, so I haven't a clue how it managed to get through!

I'll have a look at those websites you've suggested.

Thank you very much! x

Yes but Firefox usually isn't affected by it. Go to www.lavasoft.com and get free ad-aware (spyware removal) for home use and update the definitions and run it it should solve you problem..Thanks

You are going to have to install a program to get rid of it. Both of these are free.
Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

I think that popup blocker, antivirus and a friewall isn't enough. you need to install an antispyware, which helps to remove files that causes popups. Recommends: Windows Defender at the Microsoft Website. Highly recommended: Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spybot search and Destroy. These software should help you solve your problem by scanning your computer.

Probably, or your popup blocker is off. Try downloading Spybot Search and Destroy. It's a good free anti spyware/adware program. Google it and you'll find it.
Use system restore only as a last resort - it can earase a LOT of stuff to one who doesn't know alot about it.

I hate adware, but I hate Norton Antivirus even more, just a waste of money, I hope you're not offended, but I dont' care for Norton or McAfee. they do nothing for my computers

if you have either Fox or IE7, there's a pop-up blocker that's been turned off so I'd go ahead and turn it on, it's usually on the toolbar, and pretty visible.

download Microsoft Defender or ZoneAlarm, most of which is pretty free from download.com

First delete all temporary web pages including the off line ones . Clear all cache and then check it manually. Do this for both browsers. Then reboot the computer .

Yahoo has an anti spyware tool on your toolbar use it to search and see.
