I'd say you need a whole new system. Given the class of your processor, you probably won't be able to put a new one in there, certainly not an Athlon 64 or 64x2. You might be able to put an Athlon XP in there, if you can find one...

You'll also want more memory, lots more memory, at least 1GB if not 2GB. My guess is given the age of the system, the upper limit may well be 1GB. I can't say for sure...

And yes, you definitely need a new graphics card but in that system it wouldn't do you much good.

Best to just save your money and get a new system. One with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB to 2GB of memory, at least one PCI-Express slot for a new graphics card and so on...

As far as PCI-Express cards go, nvidia Geforce 7600 or 7900 series is good. If you look around you can find the 7900GS for $150 or less.

Upgrading that system probably isn't worth it because after all is said and done, you may as well have bought (or built) a new computer.

basically my friend your specs are not bad but dont expect to play the latest games, however this can be changed by spending around £100 and upgrading a few bits here and there
lets start with the processor, the semprom is a socket 468 processor so this isnt the easiest to upgrade but you can get a 1.8ghz amd semprom for around £40 this will give you a extra 200mhz of power, but this can be left as improvements can be made elsewhere
to really make a difference add some more memory,a 512mb ddr module would cost you around £35 and would increase your system memory to 768mb,this would aid smooth system running
with reference to your graphic card, the radeon 9250 is around 5 years old and only supports direct x 8 so a small investment of around £39 would buy you a cracking nvidia ge-force 6200,with pixel and shader model 3.0(the latest) and full direct x 9.0c compatibility
so for around £70 you could totally transform your p.c,the actual c.p.u speed isnt so much a problem,i only have a amd processor with a 2.2ghz clock speed, and my machine is better than my wifes which runs a pentium 4 3.2ghz,amd processor clock sppeds have a different clock speed ratio to intel so your processor at 1.6ghz is equal to a intel chip running at 2.4ghz or there about
you have not mentioned the type of graphic interface you have(a.g.p. or p.c.i.express) and also the memory type(sd-ram or ddr/ddr2 ram),,as agp cards are slightly more expensive than pci-express and sd-ram although older than ddr is also more expensive
i hope this advice has helped and if you need any more help just let me know
good luck and happy new year!

It really depends on what you want to accomplish. If it is just to tweek out more speed then three things that are easy to do. One, eliminated (close) as many programs as you can in the task bar......(bottom right) they are actually running in the backround and take up cpu resources.

Two; the addition of more RAM will also increase your speed apreciatavley. Increase from 512 which you have now to more.....whatever you can afford.
1 to 2 gigs is all most people need. I have one gig of RAM and it is just fine.

Three; if you haven't defraged you system in a while this will also help a little.

Ideally, getting a new cpu and more RAM will help. I assume you want to gamin due to the fact that you got that new card. Most games would run with the current setup, but if you get a new processor and more RAM, you should be good.

I'd say a 2.8 GhZ and 1 gb of RAM will do good.

Your cpu isn't 1,600 ghz first off
it is 1600mhz. or 1.6ghz
and yea, for most games these days, your CPU needs to run at least 1.8ghz or 1800mhz. Try a AMD 3400+
for videcard, Radeon X1300 is the best you ccan get for a PCI slot card
