Coca Cola and canned beer was also provided as a special item in rear rest areas.
Cigarettes, small packet of coffee and cream and candy bars were issued as part of the field rations. Coffee and candy bars were considered neccessary as "energy" supplements.
German field rations were similar but they received in lieu of a candy bar a tin of chocolate called "Schokacola" which was a dark chocolate packed with caffein.
Cirgarettes during the 1940's were considered vital for morale.

Because of the want for cigarettes and the shortage of money for service men and women the red Cross and K-rations were were packed with 4 cigarettes. But it was not called a luxury Item. and wine was not even on the list? Don't know where that thought came from. Cigarettes during the 1950's were .10 cents a pack and you were allowed 15 packs a week during the German occupation. Happy New Year everyone.

Smokes, coffee and such were priority items to all servicemen
in the US military and were supplied. US Army provided many smokes to combat troops until the end of Vietnam placing them in K, then C rations.
No real booze: just some awful 3.2% beer in some locations.
In the 1940's America did not produce hardly any wine.
Yes, the smokes ended up often on the "black market", as
with coffee which was in shortage in America. Tobacco, well the USA was the major producer but in short supply around the word due to such a U-Boats.

They had to have something to take their minds off war, suffering, death and sadness from being away from their families. I wouldnt' question anything done in good for our troops that would make them happy and have some hope. I think more should be done for the troops and their families both are making quite a sacrifice. My grandfather was in WWII I'm glad he came back. Knowing him has made me the person I am today. If he had died, I'd never known what a great man he is. He's a hero, and came back decorated from the war, I have all his WWII medals!.

I know cigarettes were, I don't see a need to ship wine since they were in or around France, but they might have.
