Don't you realize that when the United States is united, we are at our strongest, and can win any war etc. Democrats and Republicans need to work together and stop thinking of ways to blame the other party. This is extremely immature, and it needs to stop.

The reason we won't get over it, is that we have extremes on both sides that make so much noise and want to be heard that the middle is quite often drowned out.

Unfortunately this is the nature of partisan politics and finds its root in the differences present in human nature and opinion. We have this belief that the times we live in are the worst in history. This is not a correct assumption by any accounting. This nation has faced great challenges in its history and when circumstances require we always find a way to pull together for the common good. Partisan politics though offensive at times also serves a valid and vital purpose. The government does not always act in the best interests of the people. It is important that different viewpoints be expressed to call attention to possible inequities in policy and action. As an over simplified definition, it is another form of checks and balances.

It is fine to have different opinions on issues. it has become a problem lately when name calling and rumors are lobbed at each other. Moderates will win out in the end. You can see the shift happening now. The last election did not vote in many liberals or Conservatives. Only people with moderate views. It is up to the American voter to dictate to their Representatives on how best to lead our country. They will otherwise follow party platforms and not voter need.

Yours is a simplified view of a deep divide in philosophy's between the two party's. Repuglicans tend to give to the very rich and the large corporations and democrats tend to try to help the poor and middle class to succeed. There is no religious difference as some would have you believe. Abortion is an issue that seems to have no middle ground, although there should be. Several things are at work here, and until the country moves toward the middle as a whole there will be this deep divide.

It's all about ideals. If you look at it even closer, you will see that within each party, there are what we could call sub groups. Everybody has there own idea within each party and it does cause confusion over issues. Will it ever be solved? Don't think so but it is a better system than anything else I know of, even with its shortcomings.

There are 2 vastly different ways of looking at the world.

They cannot be compromised, and there should be no middle ground.

I can't think of a single issue that has a viable "centrist" positiion .

Until one side either gives up, or is beaten into the ground, the fight will, and should, go on.

Quite frankly, Reagan and the RNC started all of this when they began using "Liberal" as a pejorative slogan years ago. Since then, Repubs, and talk radio especially, have used it to divide and win elections.

No need to talk issues, just shout out "Liberal" in every other sentence to get elected or gain ratings points. As for blame. The right is still blaming Carter and Clinton for everything including Iraq.

Well said, sir.

Is anybody out there listening?

They need to avoid all the label calling and dung slinging and try to have intelligent, adult conversations.

I realize that's difficult when they're only 12.
