My theory is that it would shorten its lifespan. Imagine switching a lightbulb on and off constantly. If you do this, eventually the bulb is gonna be shafted. Because of the constant thermal change (hot-cool-hot) cycle, it is placing a strain on your laptop due to expansion/contraction. You didn't say if you are using your laptop on the batteries or mains, but lets assume you are using it on the battery. When you turn it on, it is using extra power to get the thing booting up in the first place, which will also shorten the battery's lifespan.

So if you leave your laptop on and only turn it off when you are finished using it will dramatically increase its lifespan. When its on the temperature is in a constant steady state. That is why you have a screensaver, to reduce wear on the screen caused by a static image left there constantly.

Hope this has been helpful. Happy new year to you Sir.

No, turning it off might actually it might lenghten it's life. Let me explain, the old theory was the mechanical hard drive that had keep start and stopping would wear out. However all electronics as soon as they are turned on basically cook themselves to death due to the heat, and laptops generate heat. So turning off the laptop will reduce the amount of time the circuitry is exposed to heat. Honestly I don't think it matters either way, leaving it off or on, it might save a few pennies on the electricity bill. Chow, and Happy New Years.

Maybe but who cares

Your Laptop is obsolete just before you unboxed it.

In three years time one one will want it

So who cares if you shorten it's life from ten years to three
