I, like most people, like puzzles and murder mysteries provide excellent puzzles - I love trying to work out whodunnit and how.

The best crime writers are those that give you enough information to work out the correct conclusion, but also confuse the issue sufficiently with red herrings to put you off the scent.

The best mysteries have to be the locked door puzzles - you know, the ones where the murder victim was killed in a room locked from inside.

My favorite writers are some of those from the golden age, like Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, and Dorothy Sayers, but also very luch like Jeffrey Deaver withhis Lincoln Rhyme novels.

I like watching documentary style murder stories on tv, or I could read them in a book too. I think many people have that kind of interest. It is just interesting. I like psychology, and I like to see how their minds work. It seems like serial killers have a very personal affair with murder. I'm not crazy or anything, I think it's wrong, would never do it. Maybe thats why it's so appealing to know about.

Yep! It is interesting, sometimes amusing although other times horrifying to know what pushes a person to end the life of someone else and the lengths the person would go through just to cover up or justify his crime. And if the murderer gets uncovered in the end, it feels good to know that justice has been done.

I like factual murder stories, because I would like to understand what motivates people to do such evil and twisted stuff. (I am not a psycho). I do love murder mystery books because it is fun trying to work out who did it before you get to the end. In general I just love to read.

I do like murder stories. Partly it's the thrill of working out whodunnit, but for me it's trying to keep one step ahead of the killer. Will there be more deaths, and if so, who? And why? Agatha Christie is my favourite author - only cracked one of her books so far!

I do, but not uniformly. They need to be well constructed and the central characters should be interesting. The chief interest is difficult to explain, atmosphere is part of it but there is more to an interesting story. Mystery also plays a part, and there is discovering how the crime was committed.

Firstly there's the mystery element - it's fun to try and work out whodunnit before the big reveal.
Secondly the sense of resolution and right and wrong. Real life isn't like that, so it's a pleasant sort of escapism.

I did, and kind of still do, until this past year and a half when there were two (or three) serial killers in my city. Kind of makes it hard to believe that one person will go to great lengths to go after one person in a book, when the killers in my city would just shoot anyone for what they deemed "random, recreational violence." I may have to find another genre.

thought this was yahoo answers...sounds like it's a GCSE exam question, and my reasons for liking murder stories is far too detailed for here, as there are some good ones and some dire ones...and I certainly don't like the dire ones.
