Good question!!
We wish something..... then work for it..... and then get it. That is the chain which delivers the result.
Now, when we wish too hard, we get too subjectively involved in it. Therefore we are unable to work for it in an objective manner. Our excess anxiety or concern for the result impairs our balance of thinking and thus the process does not get properly and objectively handled. This affects the chance of success.
When we lose hope, we mentally reconcile to the situation which reduces our anxiety level which helps us apply ourselves in a more balanced manner and the result becomes positive.
A good example to understand this is the surgeon avoiding doing any surgery himself on a near and dear person. The emotional involvement creates an anxiety which impairs his professional efficiency. The objectivity he can have while doing surgery on a third person is not possible if the patient is a near and dear one. Our wishing too hard gets us emotionally involved impairing our objectivity and efficiency in handling the process to get it.
By the way, you have coined an interesting nickname... bit of a tongue twister!

I've honestly never experienced that. I work as hard as I can for the things I want, but in your case it could be a mind over matter thing. You spend so much time focusing on having what you desire that you can't see the gears in motion to bring it to you, but as soon as you relax *poof* you can see again and it's there.

in my opinion, things happen when they need to happen, not sooner not later, most of the cases that Ive experience what you have described Ive found on time that I was either wishing for the wrong things or the timing was not the best, its very misterious but things tend to happen when we are really ready for them, to understand them or to live them at the fully.
sometimes its just wishing badly, and throw your wish out to the space and wait for a reply that will always come when we are at peace.

Because sometimes we wish on somebody else's star...
Because sometimes someone out there tests our patience...
Because sometimes we long for something so much that our concept of time is distorted....
Because sometimes the one granting wishes has to grant another one's more urgent wish...
Because sometimes when it seems all hope is lost, it only appears that way but hope still remains...

I wonder why when I pray, and pray and pray for something, and need something to the point of desperation, I never get that need met... but a quick God, I need help right now, is almost always answered quickly... I don't know?
