think people wanting to see it fit into four camps
1) people who have suffered under his regieme (be that Iraqi, Kurd or members of the many countries armed forces who have lost comrades in the wars against Iraq.) These people would want to watch it for closure (i.e they can draw a line under a piece of history that affected their lives.)
2) supporters of Saddam. Despite what CNN and Fox news might lead you to believe (ive been flicking through most of the worlds media coverage today to gauge the reporting,) Saddam still has a lot of supporters who now see him as a martyr figure symbolic of his struggle, watching his death could be seen as an act of solidarity (ie standing by their leader in his darket hour.)
3) sick addicts. With the advent of the internet, a new breed of sick seekers has been spawned, people swamped the internet for pictures of Cobains body in the 90's, video of Ken Bigley's behedding a few years back and most recently Steve Irwin stetting bumped off by a stingray. These people get a thrill from watching things that society says is the last great taboo.
4) conspiracy theorists. any major event is turned into a conspiracy by people with nothing better to do, JFK, Diana, 911 all prime examples. As the footage shown by the world media stops short of showing the actuall drop and the annonimity of the execution party (incidently anyone else think it looked like a paramilitary gurilla lynching?) a lot of these people are not going to believe that it was real, that it was a hoax and that he is now living with Elvis, Tupac and Lord Lucan on a desert island somwhere. the shrouded body shown by reuters doesnt really prove anything, the picture quality was very poor (taken by a mobile phone camera)
I say show it, put an end to the mystery that risks fulfilling his wish to be a martyr

I lived in the middle east as an American teenager and watch a public hanging of three men that raped and killed 3 little girls in Kuwait. The families there didn't have to wait years for the men to finally get what was coming to them. That's why I would like to see the execution of Saddam. So yes it right! to see JUSTICE done for all those families in Iraq.

They want to be a witness to history being made.
We are going through another strange period in history, I'm proud that people want to get the entire story and expose themselves to the details.
What does it say about the people that want to bury their heads in the sand. Take the news stories blindly, or worse yet, ignore that news is even happening.
Why was this taped in the first place?
Oh yeah!

I think for a lot of people. especially those affected by him, it would be sort of like a closure to see him die, so they can get on with the rest of their lives. Some people may feel so much hate towards him that they would enjoy watching him die.. not personally for me im a bit squeamish! i can understand some people watching it but i think its a bit wierd for people to go searching the net for it just to be a bit nosy sort of.

Dunno if it's right or wrong....but understandable. I wouldn't mind seeing myself but I won't go looking for it.
There were people queuing up to either put the rope round his neck or throw the switch for the trap doors.
PS It was taped in the 1st place to dispell the disbelief that it actually happened. Already the theories are abundant....was it really him.........was there somebody underneath waiting to catch him and cut the rope ....etc etc. Myself.....it was pointless. If he was going to be incarcerated for the rest of his life, what was the point? Now, Christians are as bad...or as good ...as Muslims.

Shows the many curiosities and natures of different people, a beheading video is worse and many who watched one of those wished they hadn't - that stuff is just too gruesome.

I do not want to see it. But it needs to be witnessed by some for the sake of legality. I can understand victims families wanting to witness it.

saw the bit on "sky" earlier, where he was led to the room and had the noose put round his neck, that was horrible, i know what he did and deserved to be hung, but even showing that bit was, as i said, horrible, knowing that a couple of minutes later he would be swinging, dont want to see it again
