percentage is mostly used in buying and selling matters. if we have a fraction 1/100 then it will be equal to 1%, similarly
2/100 = 2%
3/100 = 3%
4/100 = 4% an so on
99/100 = 99%
100/100 = 100% or whole
so, we can say that a fraction with denominator hundred can be written as a percentage.
percentage is nothing but is very important in guessing how much loss or profit has happened.
5% = 5/100
then 5% of 1000pounds will be
5/100 of 1000pounds which is equal to
= 50 pounds
and when we cut 50 pounds from 1000 we get 950 pounds.

Take 1000 and multilply by .05. After that you take 1000 and subtract 50 (1000 x .05). 950 will be remaining. In order to mulitply by a percentage you have to change it into a decimal which would be .05. To get a percent to a decimal move the decimal point to places to the left.

£950 will be left
1/10 is the same as ten percent
1/10 of £1000 is £100
but you want 5%. This is half of 10% and half of £100
So 5% is £50
