First, arm yourself with a bit of information. There's a lot of lies that roam around about tampons, so make sure you have a quick reponse ready if she uses one of them as an excuse. I remember when I first asked my mom if I could use tampons, and she told me that I'd not longer be a virgin if I did, and I was crushed because I thought it was true. That's probably one of the biggest lies out there about them, so make sure you've got a reply ready to debunk that myth.
Another excuse she wouldn't want you to use them is maturity which can increase your risk for TSS if you are not responsible enough to change them properly. So make sure you arm yourself with a little information about toxic shock syndrome incase she brings it up. Tell her you'll use the lightest or regular absorbency and change them every 4-6 hours.
Do be rather persistent, tampons really do make periods so much more tolerable.

Obviously your mother knows that you have started your periods. Does she know that they sell Junior Tampax now which would suit you. You don't say whether you are sexually active, is this the reason that you are holding back in asking her. Be as truthful with your mother as you can but there is such a thing as being economical with the truth. (meaning that you don't have to tell her everything)! Maybe if you just came in one day and said to your mother - holding a packet of Tampax in your hand telling her that you are thinking of trying these as you think that they would be more comfortable and you would have less to worry about. Read the packet together and see what happens. Hope this helps.

Now what makes you think that she's not gunna let you use tampons? In fact tampons can be better because its less mess!
Just tell her you bought some to try them out and you found them easier than using the regular towels. I don't think your mum would mind in the slightest.

Does your mom know you started your period? It's your body you decide what to use. She may have had a good/bad experience with tampons but you may not. Tell your mom, listen to her advice...then you decide which is best for you. There are good and bad things about Tampons. If you forget to change it you could develop"Toxic Shock Syndrome". So, be responsible and take care of yourself.

Just be up front with her. Tell her you had to buy one in a public restroom, (that's all there was), and you really like them. That they are more comfortable, and you all ways worry about odor with a pad. I think she will be OK with that, because it is a reason that makes sense. Good Luck!

You could start by asking her when she started using them and ask her if she found them better than using towels. This may lead to a general conversation so you can test for her reaction.

Just tell her you've tried tampons and prefer them. If you don't make a big issue out of it she will have no reason to.
If you feel she might have objections, ask yourself what they might be, and have your answers ready.
