my bf had committed a credit card fraud. someone forgot their credit card at his work and he decided to go shopping on it. anyways, he got caught and now has a permanent police record for fraud and theft. he's hopefully not going to jail for this but is told to pay back and its a large amount. anyways, my problem is that since all this has happened, he's lost his job and some friends and he's been feeling low and depressed cos of it and i'm completly blank in what should i say or do to him to cheer him up. he seems to snap at everything i do to cheer him up. help me please.

First of all, he is very scared. That was a poor decision and one that will stay not only on his record but he will have to placed it on every job application and on top of that the crime is one, no one would hire. Cant be trusted.Cant have a career. He needs to focus on, finding a loop hole, so its not a felony. If that is not possible, find out how long it remains on his record? If its so many years, I would encourage him to go back to school and work on a degree. Once off his record, he would be able to achieve his goal in life, take it has a lesson learned and move on.I am sorry to say this to you, but he doesn't need cheering up, whats to cheer up about at this point. He needs help, he knows it and you could do that. get him motivated to move on in his life and continuous encouragement will be needed, don't enable him.
He mess up, He has to answer for it.OK so do it and feeling sad, or bad for him will not help., Get mad and push him to move.

What he did was very wrong and I hope he feels generally bad for who he did it to not himself.

My advice would be to give him some space to sort his head out and tell him your be waiting to talk to him once he's ready.

He needs to sort this out himself including paying it back himself.

Good luck!
