There are patches in my front room and bedroom that look grubby so I need to clean them and I was wondering what is the best way to do this? Would it be worth hiring a steam cleaner is that the best way?

I live in the UK.

I'm unsure about using vanish or spot treatments like that because theres no actual stains, it just looks a bit dirty in certain lights.

I would hire a steam cleaner and do whole house whilst i had it. if you just clean certain areas then other places will look grubby compared to clean area, i would also wait til spring, when all the slushy weather has gone and its getting drier outside, they will then stay clean until winter is upon us again.

we have the henry carpet cleaner, but it's called george and it is a green one. it cost us about £100 but it is the best ever as it sucks the stain out of the carpet and cleans it too. these are also good for when your kids are sick as you can just suck it straight up and clean the affected area at the same time. excellent.

Get rid of the carpets.
They are a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria and bugs.
Get a floor covering like tiles or parquet that can be cleaned properly.
