Hamster pellets are the best food, as all the nutrients they need are in it and they won't get an imbalance of them like they would with mixed food, where they can pick and choose. I fed my hamster whenever his bowl was empty, because they just eat when they're hungry. If the bowl empties quickly, don't panic. They love to store their food. It's a natural instinct.

As for fruits and vegetables, I've linked a list of foods that are okay for them to eat. Be careful with fruits and other sugary foods, as Hamsters can get diabetes if they eat too much. Feed those only in moderation. http://www.hamsterific.com/HamsterUniversity/FoodList.html

At night your hamster will make its own bed in the bedding. So you are aware, wood chip bedding is bad for them. It can cause respiratory problems, so use a different type such as Carefresh pet bedding. Most pet stores should carry it. You don't need to put anything extra in the cage, just make sure you don't keep it in a drafty spot. As far as the cage goes, use one with good ventilation. Crittertail and Habitrail are good cages to try. Some people do use glass cages, but make sure you have a lid with plenty of ventilation.

Hope that helps.

you should go to a pet shop and ask for normal hamster food they need the nutrition that is in it, the need things like protein. While you are there you can buy some hamster treats once again these are specially designed. You can also go to a shop and buy some raisons and some pine nuts they love them.
Carrot is a good treat too and so is apple. Be careful with the lettace only small amounts too much can cause liver problems.

Glass cages are not very good for ventilation and could be quite cold. To keep a hamster warm give it something like petex bedding, its like cotton wool but safe for animals it is warm and comes in lots of colours.

hope all of this helps =]

get some hamster food from the pet store, and give it 2 tablespoons (roughly) every morning. replace the food from the day before if any is left. get a wire cage-those i think are better. DON'T give it lettuce because that could give it diarrhea because of the water content in the lettuce. also, buy some hamster bedding and put 2 inches of it at the bottom of the cage and you should be set!

go to the pet store buy some hampster food. lettuce apples grapes raisins all make great treats but the little guy has got to have protein which they get from nuts and seeds. the style of cage does not really matter he will be happy in just about anything. make sure he has plenty of bedding, pine works best. he will also enjoy paper towell or toilet paper rolls to hide in. maybe a small box for him to hide in.

go to ur local pet store, they have the perfect things for it! they like lettace and carrots as well, fresh! no they're fine at night, glass cages are better then wire, because in a wire cage, they might try and chew the bars which is bad for it! be sure to get some chew blocks (wood) too. be sure to touch it alot! if its a girl, be sure to aproach it carefully, bacause tehy do bite, and when they do, its HARD!

well i assume that rats are the same as hamsters, and i feed mine 1 a day though i have started to feed them 2 times because they seem to be eating moor. it really depends on the weather, if it is hot i dont think it would need it tough my rats just like material to hide in. i give them old socks and they like to climb in there. try to feed it the scraps of you veggies that you eat at dinner and i dont think cabage or dairy producs are good for them when i got my rats i was told not to feed that to them and so i diddent and they are just fine. it is a good idea to get wood shavings for it that way it can have a comptivle beeding and somethin to chue on to keep its teeth strong.i use a packing crate with hloes in the top it works really well.

just try that good luck
