This day was an American celebration. The major card companies introduced it over here because like in America they knew the women would love it and they would make a fortune from it. The chocolates, the flowers, they are all part of the multi million pound Valentine racket. I do wish you happy birthday though. That is one thing the Americans cannot claim, the ritual birthday party. I think you will find that most men buy Valentine stuff because they are forced into it. Men view it as a complete waste of money, and very few women actually know where the custom comes from.

Depends if I've got someone to love or hate at the time I think...!
;)

Having said that, I like the idea that St Valentine's is a day upon which we can tell people how much we love them (everyone we care about, doesn't have to be a lover), but hate the fact that it's become so commercial - I don't care if I get a fuss made over me on that day or not; I wish the shops had kept their noses out of it and left it as a day to secretly show your affection for someone, rather than as a moneyspinner to make partners pour useless trifles at one another...

My gran (deceased) was born on Valentine's day too! I think the ones who hate Valentine's are those without love or the hope of love.
With me, everyday is a bit like Valentine's day because I am sooo in love with myself! :)
Kidding, actually in love with life! I often buy boxes of chocolates for a couple elderly friends. That makes their day.

I really hate it because I hate how all and multiple talks about being supposedly in 'love' on the age of 16 even as there in all likelihood gonna split with one yet another the day after. The be conscious love must be used gently and it truly is going to signify something =/ So yeah I hate it.

It makes little difference to me. I'm from Trinidad and Tobago, and Valentine's Day usually falls right in the middle of the Carnival season. So you're typically to busy feting to care. But it has been gaining popularity, not to sure that's a good idea though. It such a commercial thing.

This may sound cynical but as with Mothers day and Fathers day, why should there be a special day to show someone you care for them? If you care that much you should be showing your appreciation the whole year round. Having said that,i do get p****d off if i don't get a Valentines card from a boyfriend or a mothers day card from my kids.

But i do agree with lots of the others. Its just a day for florists, card and chocolate makers to encourage you to part with your hard earned cash.

I don't care for it myself and I think the reason some people don't care for it either is because it hurts to see others being shown romantic gestures of love toward each other and me not getting any .If like me you don't happen to have a romantic partner well at least one that does not like to show his feeling to all the world then it can leave you feeling alittle disheartened and with thoughts of why does this not happen to me !!!!!!!!! selfish I know but hey thats me when it comes to the whole love thing !
Anyways Happy Birthdays for all the 14th of Feb people including my Niece xxxxxxx

I hate valentines day because I would be overloaded with work in the government office. Most employees are absent. I love it because i go home early without traffic.

It is a day for expressing love and togetherness weather it's in a romantic way or a friendship. People who dislike Valentines day generally feel jealous and annoyed because they're single and don't have anyone to share it with.
However as a single girl I think these people should open their eyes and realize that Valentines day celebrates all caring relationships, not just boyfriend/girlfriend, it doesn't matter if its mother/daughter or best friends, show them you care on this special day.
