This could be to you or a friend or you saw it happen to a stranger would you stick up for yourself or them. What did you do or what would you suggest you would do if you could have.

I speak up 99% of the time. Times that I don't are when there's no way I could get out of the situation without backup. Safety first. Social justice second. :) But even in those situations I make eye contact and walk away as if I owned the sidewalk under my feet. Feels kinda scary having your back to them, though!!!

People talk big, but if you actually confront them they usually shrink down into themselves. How I confront depends on the situation though, because confronting doesn't mean I have to respond at a level 10 when a level 2 would have done just fine. Often eye contact is enough for them to suddenly realize they have other things they should be doing. :)

My one personal... well, call it what you want... Fault? Strength? Momentary lapse of reason, (recurring) ...is that I have never been accused of keeping my feelings and opinions to myself. My brain has a tendency to override my mouth, or vice-versa. I hate rudeness in others. It is almost intolerable. I have always tried to treat others with respect. (whether I like them or not).
I had something happen where I just had to let this guy know just how much of a d**k he was being. Without getting into details... it involved extremely improper language in the presence of a lady and her kids. There were "tons" of people around, but nobody said anything to him (the D**K). So, I did. He started to say something to me, kinda like "you *&^*&^*&^ (^% #%#%^%&^," if you know what I mean? Anyway, must have been the way I looked at him or something, 'cuz, all of a sudden, it was as if he realized what a schmuck he looked and sounded like, and he "dummied up", turned around and walked away. Had it been necessary, I would have used a more persuasive means to get him to behave himself in a more gentlemanly manner. It was cool that he just left. That way, everybody could go back to their "business". The lady with the kids said Thanks. It was worth it. It usually is.

And, I don't just shsh someone in a movie theater either. I have been known to impress on someone how relevant to their personal well being it is that they "shut the F*** up" while people are trying to enjoy the movie. Once again, I really hate rudeness in people.

Yes, I would definitely rise for my rights and against any wrong done to me. My reaction would be directly proportionate to the degree of disgrace inflicted on me or my friend(s). However, I don't know if I'll do that for a total stranger. Call me selfish if you may.

YES. I would defend myself and family to the end. I would also lend a helping hand to a stranger. NO one deserves to be 'talked down to' in public.

If someone really deserved to be reprimanded, do that in PRIVATE.

If there's enough people around, or the offender is small enough to not pose a physical threat, I'd like to think I'd say something. It also depends on the specific circumstance, though, because often you just literally do not know how to respond.
