Ooo leather! I love my leather jacket it keeps me warm. But i'm only from La so it doesn't require much to keep warm down here. Something with better insulation is good to keep warm with in the winter. I also have a down jacket and that works even better. If it keeps the birds warm it's gotta keep you warm right? Plus, believe it or not the best insulation is a layer of air. The down jacket will have spaces for air between the feather and still not be too cumbersome like the weight of the leather.

Leather jackets do tend to have a padded lining but they're never that warm. I have an immensely warm coat with Duck feathers inside. Hmmmm it's so lovely and warm!!!

Leather is a great windbreaker. Fleece is warmer. I ride motorcycles and my jacket is Thinsulate lined with a Fleece insert for really cold days. Leather gets stiff when cold, it's hard to move in.

Call me old-fashioned, but I am a big fan of down jackets and their synthetic counterparts. Primaloft is great, and it's not as "fluffy" as down is, so you don't look as much like the Sta-Puft Marshmallow man. I also like fleece for an outer layer, as a windbreaker, especially lined fleece.

I wear leather on my motorcycles, and it's really only good for stopping wind. You want something with some insulation in it - like down.
