firstly everyone in the world was looking for him. it was easier for him to stay in a county where people looked similar to him and where he thought people supported him.

secondly if he didn't consider the fact that life in a hole is not life at all, what would give him the brain power to think about fleeing the country?

finally, it was impossible for him to move from his hiding place because he did not know who he could and couldn't trust. it was easier to stick with what he knew

I think he thought the Iraqi people would rise up against the US and British forces. It never occurred to him that most Iraqis were delighted to see the back of him.

He was a proud President of a sovereign country. Regardless of what he ordered to be done, like any President, he did not want to flee his people nor homeland, like a coward.
That's just my guess.

i winder where he managed to get his hair dyed, when he was hiding in that hole for months? you look at the video and he has jet black dyed hair and a grey beard. so where was he dying his hair? sneaking out at night to the barbers???

cause i think he knew that the usa would of been the best way for him to be safe and get a fair trial the people would have killed him i think!
