I think it's supposed to be unlucky to take it down any later than 6th January.

It's unlucky to take a tree down before New Years apparently and if it is taken down after the 1st Sunday of the New year then it's also unlucky.

Wow, I did not know about this one. I would think to take it down before Christmas was actually over wouldn't be too good. I am superstitious and I have not heard of this one. When the pine needles drop off? That is, if it is a real one. Fake one has dust on it?
I haven't put a Christmas tree up in years so what does that mean? Now I'm worried. Ha ha ha.
Seriously, when you feel that Christmas has finished its run in your home take it down. I have found Christmas is time with a feeling unique to itself and when it has ended it is over until next Christmas.

As far as I knew it was 12 day before Christmas to put up a tree, and 12 days after Christmas to take it down... not sure where I got that from, but its what my mum always did
Things are only unlucky if you believe in them!!

Don't know why its considered unlucky to take Christmas decorations down early, the only old wives tale I have heard of is as long as your decorations are down on or before 12th night then your fine, if you don't take them down by 12th night then your supposed to leave them until February 2nd which is candlemass day, get them down if your fed up with them I say, have a great new year.

Traditionally a Christmas Tree is put up on the 3rd Sunday in Advent and remains there until 6 January, the arrival of the wise men .

I never knew luck had anything to do with a Christmas tree..If you are ready, take it down, but usually people wait til after the New Year at least..

My gram would take her's out and burn New Year's day, to burn away the past year's bad luck. My mum, any old time, and me? I do it any time from around now until 12th night or just after.
Right now, I am pulling ornaments as I have time. The tree will be out of here in a day or so.
I don't think it has a thing to do with luck!

~We all have bad luck from time to time, but I don't think there is any connection to taking your tree down early and having bad luck.~
