I need fashion advice for a new years party (I changed my plans at the last minute). I'm a 23 year old male with a gut that needs to be hidden.
The party is at a casino in Sydney. I'm told its going to be a "semi-casual/semi-formal" thing. I have no idea. Help! Suggestions that include links to pictures will be particularly helpful.
Also, I desperately need a haircut. What do you think my chances are of getting one before new years tomorrow are?

Well, I'm not going to come up with any photos, and I'm not sure what your budget is, so I'll try to come up with a variety of suggestions here...You should be able to get a haircut today - I'm not sure what the time difference is, but it shouldn't be too big of a problem - try to go to a good stylist, because they'll be able to offer more valuable advice on a haircut than someone who isn't. A single-breasted suit is a good bet for hiding a gut - my husband is about 2 meters tall (6 feet 2 inches), and he weighs in around 240-250 lbs. Dark colors are a good idea, and you don't have to wear a tie - a pale shirt will contrast nicely with the suit - not white, but a light pink or blue. Also, wearing shoes with a bit of a heel will give you a height boost, which automatically makes you look thinner. If you can find a suit with narrow pinstripes in dark fabric, vertical stripes will also narrow your profile. If you don't have a suit, or don't have the money to get one, a dark shirt with a pair of pants (light color) that fit well (as in, not sitting under your belly) will help to hide it, especially if the shirt is tucked in and "fluffed" a little (wear a longer one if you can to accommodate this). Whatever you do, NO horizontal stripes, no bright colors, and don't wear a dark colored pant with a light shirt unless you're wearing a blazer/jacket over it. Good luck and Happy new year! :)
