You can't upgrade the existing PCI ports. They are part of the motherboard and are only connected up to the 1.1 standard. Get a PCI card with 4 USB2 slots and fit this. You can use all 8 slots, but if you won't be using the motherboard USB 1.1 ports, disable them in BIOS. This will save you a bit of processing time and should reduce system errors.

All you need is a USB 2.0 driver program. You don't have to replace the USB card in the system. Just the drivers.

no.your motherboard determines the sped of usb ports. however you can buy a pci card on e bay for a fiver and this will give you usb 2

There are adapter in cable form. It is better to use the cables by doing certain modify to your system. Installing certain software also might help.
