Just imagine if it was square and an animal trying to push that out.

Not all hen's eggs are ovoid; some are bullet shaped if the chickens are at war. Actually, the typical hen's egg is spherical at one end and parabolic at the other, employing the Golden Number. Because chickens have not mastered solid geometry (yet), the shape likely facilitates shell formation and movement along the duct (or duck if it is not a hen?). Because chicks must form within those eggs not teamed up with ham, an efficient shell form promotes successful offspring outnumbering those with cubic or even pretzel shaped birth chambers.

It's both. The shape is caused by the delivery. It is shaped as it is forced through the oviduct, but it also makes it very strong. This is because of the arches in the design. If a man, or woman, were to place the egg end to end between the palms of their hands and apply pressure, it can not be broken. That is as long as you don't interlace your fingers.

The egg is initially soft, it becomes hard once it is exposed to the atmosphere. So it takes it shape as it is delivered. This smooth shape helps to keep the embryo protected from external damage.Imagine if it is a square and and has hard corners, obviously this shape gives discomfort to the embryo.
Besides that, God has given it a shape which can prevent it from crushing.Try it out..... Take the four empty eggshells and place books over it ( find the heaviest book you have! ) ... to your surprise these shells can manage the heavy wait.

It is one of the strongest shapes known to nature; if you apply even pressure to an egg (in the palm of your hand for example) it is extremely difficult to break. Dropping it or hitting it on one particular point is different, but does give rise to the misconception that eggs are fragile whatever the circumstances of impact.

Comes out easier - and is less likely to break in the process.
