hey plz don't claim everything to a virus or spyware, many things are cause due to some problem in the registry, or may the settings are changed, but I thinks that you should reinstall your internet browser, better to use Mozilla Firefox and then try to download again, if your computer restarts again then there may be a virus but if it works fine then it is finally a problem o f your Internet browser or may have a virus there. so clean out your PC.
you can download Mozilla Firefox from www.mozilla.com

Steps you can take to resolve the restart problem:
- change your processor fan
- see if there is no problem with your power supply
- update your windows
- update your IE to v.6.1 or higher.
In order to download the files you can also use a download manager such as download accelerator that can help to resume broken doenloads. Gte it here: http://www.speedbit.com
