I wish I had this 2 years ago when I damaged my rotator cuff while showing off. This is very detailed and really gives you the techniques you need to sort out your own shoulder issues and a lot more info such as preventing further injuries. If you have a shoulder keeping you awake at night you'll know it's no laughing matter.

Stop Shoulder Pain Permanently?

2016-05-14 18:56:22 · answer #3 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

To treat a frozen shoulder these are some suggestions:
1. anti-inflammatory medication (which is not the same as pain medication)
2. cortisone injection(s) into the shoulder
3. physical therapy, doing range of motion exercises, ice packs, and eventually strengthening exercises.
4. physical therapy(in office) can include ultrasound and electric stimulation.

Without aggressive treatment, a frozen shoulder can be permanent.

It can take a few months to a year to resolve so don't give up.

I went through this a couple of years ago and it was not fun.
There's only two ways to fix the problem, one is physical therapy and the other is surgery. I had to go through three months of intensive therapy, and it was intensive too.
You won't fix frozen shoulder on your own, trust me, you won't do to yourself what has to be done to break it free again. You'll need a therapist for that, and the pain killers, but you have the option of only taking them on the therapy days and not all the time. I was given Vicodine (sp?) for the pain, but only took them on therapy days, if I needed pain control on the off days, I took Advil and they worked. My shoulder was so messed up that I couldn't even put the back of my hand on my behind without it hurting, and shaving that arm pit was near impossible because I couldn't raise my arm high enough.
If it's truly 'frozen' then you should have limited use of it, as in it won't move like it should. You'll need the physical therapy, and the pain killers for those days.
If you have tendinitis in it, then the exercises you're doing and severely limiting the use of it, should work.
Go to webmd.com and see what they advise, but I'd go back to the doc and him refer me to a good physical therapist, a "sports therapist" and let him/her help with it.
A word of caution, if the therapist doesn't work the shoulder in all 4 directions, then you have the wrong one and should ask your doc about changing to a different one. The shoulder moves in 4 directions and some therapists won't work it in all four, be sure the one you're seeing does this or you're wasting your time and money.

Only time cures this problem. There is no real cure otherwise my friend. The cause for frozen shoulder is also not known. It can take up to 3 months or even more for the pain to subside altogether. Little gentle exercise to keep the shoulder moving helps but only a little. Good luck.

I was just reading about this condition today in the book "Pain Free". He offers exercises to release the shoulders and remedy the other musculoskeletal issue that contribute to it.

Here's the info: Pain Free: A Revolutionary Method for Stopping Chronic Pain
by Pete Egoscue, Roger Gittines

The doctor who wrote it has been featured on numerous TV shows and is considered a revolutionary in the field of physical therapy. He has given people methods to heal themselves without resorting to a physical therapist. My mom has been using his exercises for years to eliminate her chronic lower back problems, and has converted several of her friends.

Also, as a remedy for locked musculature, I highly recommend Valerian Root. It's a natural muscle relaxer. Use it before doing stretches!

It would definitely be worth a try before going the PT route! Good Luck!

Very slooooooow stretching, which includes poses which involve twisting of the shoulders and spine, in steps and increasing the
intensity of the twists in little amounts, will help a lot. It takes
a lot of time and patience to undo the stiffness, as the neck and shoulder regions
are designed to take an enormous amount of tension. I have been
suffering from severe neck stiffness (which had resulted from a gradual tightening of the neck muscles over several years) doing very slooow yoga for several hours, everyday, for the past 4 years, and it has helped tremendously in alleviating the stiffness problems. As the jaw is at a sharp angle to the neck and shoulders, it is very important to go always as slow as possible
and with a lot of mindful awareness in doing the stretches. One
should stretch only to the point of, maybe, slight discomfort, not
pain (which can be easily avoided when increasing the intensity of the stretches in little amounts, with several pauses in between), and lying flat for a few minutes in between stretches,
as it will take the weight of the head and neck of the shoulders, and will help in stabilising blood-circulation in the stretched parts.

If your looking for a fast cure , then you have certain expectations on how well a CURE should work. The acupuncture will work if you give it time. Your body won't heal over night.

what caused your "frozen shoulder"? an injury? arthritis? if not an injury, i'm a big fan of vitamins and minerals and believe that most ailments are linked back to a nutritional deficiency. need more information from you.
