no, but you can go the other way & play ps1 games on ps2

No, you can't play PS2 games on PS1 because the PS2 games are on DVD-s and the PS1 games are on CD-s.
Imagine that the CD-s are the PS1 games and the DVD-s are the PS2 games.
You can't put DVD-s in the CD-ROM because it won't support it. It can't read it because the lens of the CD-ROM aren't as powerful as the lens of the DVD-ROM.
But you can play PS1 games on PS2.

Sorry but no. The Newer systems can play the older ones (PS3 can play PS2 and PS1 games). But the older systems cannot play the new as there hardware is obsolete.
