With the amount of blood curdling violence exploding daily in Iraq I would imagine watching Saddam swing would seem positively mild and sophisticated - so no, I doubt very much it would have any affect whatsoever on the insurgents.

No, according to the videographer who filmed the hanging, old boy didn't bleed or even spit up. That does not make a good snuff film. Didn't you know that?

sadly he's become a martyr, and therefore his faults will be forgotten and his "values", whatever they were, will become eternal. All beliefs and cultures love a good martyr, especially one who has gone to his death with a defiant shout for his belief, as Saddam did. We've not seen the last of him yet ...

I think its one of those Damned if they do Damned if they don't.

They do show it
- Helps him become a mytre
- Angers his soupporters
- Tries to draw a line under the whole thing

They don't show it
- People will not think he is dead
