I have Norton Internet Security and it seems to be slowing down my pc, and blocking my network from starting up even though i have configured it!! So im thinking of changing to Zone alarm but i have heard 100's of people are getting these Blue Screen Of Death errors!! And it totaly messed up their pc's!! Is this because of anything in particular and how good is it?

Hello,

I removed Norton Anti Virus software from my computer because the updates were starting to cost too much, I had a dreadful time removing Norton.

I installed ZoneAlarm as my primary firewall its THE best freeware program I have on my machine (windows XP Pro) it works extremely well & has protected my system for many years now.

The version I have is an early version (Version2.361) but all the more recent ZA versions are all based on the same core or kernal. ZoneAlarm is so good because it uses SPI stateful packet inspection which is a very strong method, a tough method to protect a machine. SPI is used as a method in many many hardware routers so its well tried and tested.

**NOTE: Zone Alarm if installed correctly and configured correctly should NOT cause any problems like the NT blue screen of death or cause windows stop errors.

In other words the ZoneAlarm basic firewall (and the paid for versions) should be totally safe for windows. I highly recommend Zone Alarms free firewall to you its excellent product.

No, I actually use Zone Alarm Security Suite which also has the antivirus and antispyware. But I used to use the Free ZA and Pro before. They are, IMO, the best firewall available. The only thing that's flaky about ZA is if you run a big game, especially an online game, then it seems to hog a little more CPU power (I guess it's trying to analyze every packet coming through). Another thing is sometimes on SOME programs (not all) that you run the install for the first time, it might run slow until it gets done. I usually put if offline in either of the two situations. I haven't had any hacking problems with the program.. I have inadvertantly got a trojan or spyware program before, but the second it tried to transmit something on the internet, big popup, the program gets blocked and it tells what program and location is trying to access the internet. At least now you know that something malice is going on.

I started to use Zone Alarm Firewall after an attempted browser hi-jack ~ an ask/answer forum strongly recommended it and I have been using ever since. I know a lot of people don't like Zone Alarm or Norton because of the warning pop-ups, but if your not an experienced computer user they inform you what and who is trying to access your computer and it also allows you keep an eye on your computer accessing the Internet for updates and gives you the option of allowing or denying the updates. I have had no problems with Zone Alarm but plenty with Microsoft.....so go for it.

I am using Zoe Alarm internet Security suite and it is fantasic! I have not had any problems with it and have been using for avoer a year now.
One of the reason you may hear about 'the blue screen of death' is that usually just an uninstall is not enough to get Norton (or other anti virus for that matter) off your system, and you will need to reformat your hardrive before you can install a different Anti Virus program.

I started with the free version of Zone Alarm some 4 years ago I never had any problems with it, last year when my Norton Anti-virus was up for renewal I purchased the full version of Zone Alarm Pro with Anti-virus. I have only had one problem in all my years with ZA and that was caused by Nortons web scan of my PC recently when I was curious about spy ware. The problem was solved quickly and efficiently by ZA support centre. I recommend them

I've been using the constantly updated version of Zone Alarm for over 2 years now - with a brief shift to Bit Defender last summer -, and I declare myself satisfied.
It has proved to be very reliable and to support a wide range of tweaking, depending of your skill level and knowledge. Never had any problems with it running under WinXP SP2, and never caught more than 1 virus/year - and that's from P2P downloads, not browsing or e-mail ;)
Highly recommended for its firewall functions!

I had ZoneAlarm once but decided to de-install it after a while. Found sygate552577.exe (FREE stable version, search on net) and have been using it myself and installed for other users. Don't forget to completely de-install another Firewall first though as having two firewalls running will get you into trouble. Turn off the WIndows firewall which we all know it's not good. Some virus checkers are more trouble than it's worth. They slow down your machine so having a good firewall is more important. Also to speed up your PC (for security as well), turn off unnecessary XP services.

get rid of norton...

it does nothing but slowing down your system...

install bitdefender9.0 as your antivirus but don't use its firewall

zonealarm firewall is excellant

its just a haox that it causes the blue screen of death

blue screen errors are usually due to hardware problems not the software ones
