I agree with those who say read about something that interests you! Don't just look at the bestsellers list; I read 275 books in 2006 and not one from the bestsellers list, the previous year the only one from the bestsellers list I read was the Potter book. So don't rely on other people's interest to make your choice!
Often detectives and such are pretty easy reading material, and also there may be more of an incentive to keep reading until the end if you wanna know 'whodunnit' :)

First you need a topic that interests you and then you need to go out and find reading material on that topic. I am a prolific reader and have been for the past 20 years (since early childhood) and I cannot imagine life without books. I hope that you become interested in reading...it's great fun. Good luck!

Well, if you're not a reader at the moment but would like to become one, you probably don't really know what appeals to you. So, try going to your local library and finding all the books which are currently on the Bestseller list and read them. You know they must be good to have achieved that status. You could also find books which have a movie version as well, like 'The Devil Wears Prada', or 'Harry Potter' or whatever appeals to you. If you watch half of the movie, then start reading the book, you'll find yourself eager to recognise parts from the movie in the book, and you'll be waiting for a specific event to come up.
I hope this helps, and good luck!

Every time you read the book, you get a new experience. You get to live a completely new story. What I do is, I read the summary of the book and choose to read one, which appeals me. The moment you start reading you come to know that you cannot stop now. You will crave to complete the story, to know the truth. You will get to know new characters, new story plot each time. And believe me once you become fan of books you cannot live without them. They help in other ways to. They make to improve our language. It is good to read a book than wasting your time. Any kind of book fiction, non-fiction, science fiction makes good read. Just take the book and Start reading.

Heh, funny you mentioned that. When I was little, I was a little math genius (now I can't even do simple multiplication without wanting to run the other way) but I sucked at writing. My teachers and parents actually forced me to read constantly and by 4th grade, I was speeding through The Hobbit and Pride and Prejudice. MY writing and desire to read for fun level hit the roof. (and I began my steady downward trail to faliure at math). By reading, my structure in writing and vocabulary improved greatly and even though I was forced, I find myself without any regrets. Books are fickle creatures, you have to come to them, not wait for them to pop out at you. If you pick up a book and find you don't like it, try, try, and try again. =^-^=

Begin with a shorter book....one that really interest you. (This has to do with genre...you might like fantasy or sci-fi, non-fiction, romance, mysteries, gothic) Read it, if you don't like it, look for other books in the same genre or try another genre that might interest you more.
The possibilities are endless!

Start off with short stories that appeal to you. Many authors are different. So sometimes the author may be boring that you may need to change books. Anyway, work your way up.
I LOVE to read!!!! n

Find something that interests you. I would start off with something short and then work your way up to thicker paged books.
