Okay well I know you won't know EXACTLY why he said it. I just meant WHY would he say that? I thought he was the evil guy.

All muslims say that, whether they are evil or good, or shiite, or sunnis, or even when some kill each other.. it is just a moto like who cares, something like that. or maybe he tell us to remove God is great from our flag that he puts in 1991 . but I doubt the cowrd iraqi government will do it.

Why did he say do not hate the US-led attack on Iraq? (something like that) I think Saddam finally realized that his life is not a dream, and reality took over. Even as an agnostic (pro-aethiest, but don't care), I might say the same thing before I die, especially if it's by hanging. If I believed in God, I would thank him for what happen to Saddam.

It's what all terrorists chant just before they kill someone or just before they die.
It's also what the 9-11 hijackers were chanting just before they plowed the planes into the towers.
Saddam, being a terrorist, continued in this fashion.
Yes, he may say "God is good", but he's having coffee with al-Zarqui and The Devil right about now...

well, if he actually said that, then he apparently knew that God was watching him and did he ask God for forgiveness?, if not, he already determined his fate for a place near the devil and he would be cast aside. Only God can judge him now.

He said it because he realized that he was a dirt bag who was going to meet his God so he thought he'd better start brown nosing before he got there.

because he is scared. when you are minutes from knowing your own death i guess you have to fear the unknown. in their culture its God, Allah, Buddah whatever. i know for certain that although he is stating that god is great he is in a very hot place right now.
