Bluetooth is a radio communication system designed for low power. It has a short range based around low-cost transceiver microchips in each device.
It lets these devices communicate with each other when they are in range (dependant on the power). The devices use a radio communications system, so they do not have to be in line of sight of each other and so can be in other rooms.

Well, bluetooth is a method by which devices can communicate wirelessly. It's commonly used for things such as wireless ear pieces on cell phones, wireless controllers for video games, wireless mice and keyboards for computers. etc.(although there's many many other uses for it).
