Can I transfer my cell number from t-mobile?

I'm leaving the country for a year and want to end my relationship with T-mobile. I had planned to open a Skype account, where you pay a subscription and they give you a phone number, for whatever area code you want.

I would like to transfer my current number from t-mobile to my new skype account, Is this possible?

Yes this is a port out, you would need to contact Skype and let them know you want to port in. When the number is ported in the T-mobile account will cancel.
