PETA kills a lot of dogs it saves so I am thinking the local animal shelter would find a home for him. PETA would kill him.

Hi there...no animal wouldn't have much of a chance with a PETA supported shelter (PETA is an organization, but they own some shelters) since they don't believe any domestic pet should be...a pet, but rather euthanised. More on PETA's dirty secrets: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/petaKillsAnimals.cfm . But you already had asked questions about PETA so I am certain you know more about this by now.

Unfortunately, some shelters are not much better since there's a capacity issue and depending on the breed of dog.

Consider posting an ad with a free online clasified services such as either Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com or Craigslist http://www.craigslist.org (locate your state then nearest town and then in the Community section look for subsection Pets). Consider asking a small adoption fee to disuade anyone looking for a free dog to use for research lab, dog fight training or worse treatment. Ask prospective families interesting in adopting that you would like to conduct a monthly inspection for a few months to ensure your dog will be going to a good home who will cherish the company.

PETA...you hate PETA...hmmm. I am an animal rights activist, have VERY strong beliefs on animals cruelty and neglect which don't always agree with PETA. But a local pound, are you insane? There are several rescues out there working to relieve the over occupancies of shelters! You obviously have the internet, do a search on a local rescue! Why would you get rid of your dog anyways, did you not think before you bought him, is he a novelty, or is there something serious? Find a no-kill shelter if you must throw away your baby.

I agree with Angela M. PETA is a shelter that saves animals from abuse.

Also, Peyton has a very good idea about providing a security (shirt) for your dog.

Lastly, I totally agree with Coachfever. "Ask prospective families interesting in adopting that you would like to conduct a monthly inspection for a few months to ensure your dog will be going to a good home who will cherish the company."

A couple other places to post an ad is your local pet store and on www.freecycle.org

Always screen the potential adoptive family!!!

You have a responsibility for his health, safety and long life.

Omgoshh ; why would you do that?
A better and easier way for you AND your dog :
Post in your local newspaper ad section "pets" or similar and say "I have a [genderofdog][breedofdog] that is [agehere] and needs a home asap. His rehoming fee is [rehomingfeehere] and he comes with [addhisstuffhere]. He [is/isn't] good with kids, cats, or other dogs. He is a great dog ; I am parting with him because [listreasonhere]. Thanks so much, [yournamehere]
If your interstead in giving [dognamehere] a home, please call [phonenumberhere] or email me at [emailaddresshere].
Or post something like that at Craigslist.com for your local area. They have big cities like New York, Dallas, Miami, ect. You're sure to find him a home instead of risking his life at the pound or peta.

Pets are a major responsibility. You better have a good reason for needing to get rid of him! You don't adopt a foster child and then send it back to Human Services when it's not convenient for you anymore.

First, I would check w/ friends and family. Who knows? Maybe someone's looking for a pet.

Second, if you send it to the pound it will be put to sleep usually within 1-2 weeks if it doesn't get adopted right away.

PETA is an organization, not a pound. They would probably yell at you for giving away your dog.

If you must give your dog away, please, please take it to a NO-KILL Animal Shelter! Even if you have to drive for hours. Please.

if you leave your dog at the pound they will euthanize him in two to three weeks, if he hasnt found a home. your best bet would be an animal shelter. ask if they euthanize animals. if they do than keep searching. dont forget to leave your doggy with one of mommy, or daddys, shirts that u slept in for a few nights and some of his toys so he doesnt feel so lonely and scared.=[

PETA is not a pound. It is an animal org. that helps neglected animals.
