Tried to use there glasses to magnify the suns rays, to start a fire?

Which is possible with a magnifying glass.

A woman did once...I think it was in Africa.
I've wondered the same thing (perhaps the producers have instituted a rule preventing it.)
Of course I've also wondered why contestants haven't studied edible plants and roots and why some Amazing Race contestants don't learn how to drive manual transmission cars before they go on these shows, but there you go....

They did but it didn't work. Not all glasses focus light well and not all kindling ignites. I believe one person in an early series was lucky enough to have figured out that the lense in the spy glass provided in the kit they used to be given could be removed and used for a magnifying glass but as you know they give you almost nothing these days.
