The BBC has shown some of the footage, but only so far as showing Saddam and his executioners standing near the gallows. That's all I care to see.

Glorifying in an execution that you would not have had the balls to carry out personally does not show you in a good light. In fact, it makes you look quite the lackwit.

As for Saddam, I hope he does not make the same mistakes in his next incarnation.

For all you 'I wanna see the actual hanging' posters, you are no better than the barbarians at Al Jazeera who show videos of Western hostages being beheaded. You are displaying exactly the same mindset, and here I thought we were meant to be showing them a 'better' way...

As much as I personally don't want to see the actual hanging I really can't judge those who might.

We have all seen on history channels or other news programs horrible deaths, mass graves or other unspeakables. These are usually images of the VICTIMS of people like Saddam or Hitler. I have seen these images and footage throughout my life on reputable programs and stations. They are there to educate and make us realize what is taking place around our world. I have watched in awe and with great sadness footage of innocent people being shot in the head by nazis and other government military peoples, children burning in napalm, protesters being run over by government tanks.
When the people responsible for these crimes are punished with death I do think those who wish to watch are justified in doing so just as the family of a murder victim in the US can go watch the execution of the killer responsible.

I can't believe there are so many of you that DONT want to see the hanging !! fair enough its not a nice thing to watch but its SADDAM I for one want to see proof that he has gone for good and wouldn't put it past some people out there to say he's been hanged and then hey 2 years down the line he turns up somewhere again.

Yes I want to see the hanging, BBC News are not going to show it, lets hope that CNN or SKY will do !

No. I doubt it will be on tele. Maybe online someplace. I am not sure I would want to see it. Though it is understandable that he had to be executed, I do not think I would get any feeling of satisfaction at seeing his last twitch.
Suzie, I understand what you are saying. As horrid a mass murderer as he was, unless I had to be involved as in a professional capacity, I am not sure I would want to wittness it either in person or in a report.

No and I don't want to. There is something barbaric in getting pleasure from seeing someone die whatever their crime. I don't believe in capital puniishment as I don't think anyone has the right to take another person's life whatever they have done. Isn't it just doing what he did? Hypocritically, I am glad he has gone because he was evil..
