I think you may be asking for the definition of a ROUTER, not a rauter. A router is a hardware device used on a computer network, and it forwards data packets between networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP’s network. Routers are located at the places where two or more networks connect.

Routers use headers and forwarding tables to determine the best path for forwarding the packets, and they use protocols such as ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts.

If you have a home network, then you most likely have a router that is connected to your ISP via your phone line or cable line, as well as to your home network via Ethernet or wireless devices. If you only have a single computer at home connected to the Internet, then you most likely do not have a router, you have a modem instead.
