"Outstanding" is a tough word to interpret in this case.
Popularity? Quality? Price range? Hmmm.
Most manufacturers offer several lines (read: level of workmanship/price) even of the same model. For example, a new Gibson Les Paul can be had for anywhere from 500 to 3500 dollars or more. Big spread, eh?
As with any other tool, it depends on what you need it for.
Good luck getting a Telecaster to sound "right" in a death-metal band, for one. However for country-ish tracks, that same Tele is usually my first draw.
But, if we're just name-dropping...
In no particular order, off the top of my head:
Jackson, Gibson, Fender, ESP, PRS, Ibanez, Carvin, Schecter, Gretsch, Parker, Peavey (ewww), Charvel, BC Rich...etc ad nauseam.

I'm gonna say PEAVEY, but they're made in my hometown!
Then Gipson, then Fender.
