i will be reading all that are posted on here.
I read books pretty fast (usually within few hours) due to having learnt how to speedread in school, which I believe is sometimes a disadvantage for me.

in reply to Tappy Feet: I read all kinds of books and be it fiction or non-fiction ..
i do however tend to sway from horror books, but everything else is great.
I like to keep my mind active

First off, you might also want to search for questions similiar to this, I know I have seen some in the book section.
Anyway- depending on what type of books you like-
Series- Christy Miller series (Robin Jones Gunn), Harry Potter (JK Rowling), The Inheritance Trilogy (Christopher Paolini), Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia. Oh, and just about anything by Meg Cabot (especially the series about Suze) or Robin Jones Gunn who I already mentioned. Good luck finding something.

Best singular? That's too hard. I'll give a list of some of the all time best I've ever read.

Notes from the Underground - Dostoevsky (translated by Mirra Ginsburg)

The Scarlet Letter - Hawthorne

1984 and Down and Out in Paris and London - Orwell

Catch-22 - Heller

Man and His Symbols - Carl Jung (edited by)

The Power of Myth - Joseph Campbell

The works of Nietzsche

It depends on what you love& like to read. That should be the real question. Me I prefer contemporary romances. I would recommend Julie Garwood- Mercy, Christina Skye-Hot Pursuit,Karen Robards-Whispers At Midnight, Charotte Hughes-Hot Shot. Hot and Steamy,I mean you will be sitting in front of a fan that's how hot I mean Shannon Mc Kenna- Behind Closed Doors. now there is book 2,3 of this type. I've read only this one. Because now I have started Harry Potter book 6. I have read 1-5. This is different because I've always loved children books they are easier to read then you just move up. Enjoy :}Giggles66,

That's way too hard... but some of my favorite writers include: Anne Tyler, Amy Tan, John Irving, Larry McMurtry, Robert Morgan, and Barbara Kingsolver. You can't go wrong... and if you haven't read Dickens yet, you must... also Pearl S. Buck, The Good Earth. This could go on forever. Toni Morrison. Sue Monk Kidd, Billie Letts. Read "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb.

One of my favorites is called The Fire Inside,by Steve Delshon. He talks to different kinds of firefighters from all over the country about their work on and off duty.It includes a lot of inside stuff the general public doesn't know about.Strangely, the book came out BEFORE 9-11.

There are sooooo many GREAT books to read! Of course, answering your question is a challenge in that we don't know what type of book YOU like....so....here's some ideas based on my tastes: 1.) Emma/Pride & Predjudice or anything Jane Austen; for wit, romance and lot's of fun. 2.) Arrowsmith by Sinclair Lewis; for a great tale of a very human hero who struggles to live in and out of the "box". 3.) The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova; for suspense and historical adventure....4.) ....mind candy: anything by Julie Garwood or Julia Quinn. Good luck and Happy Reading :)
